A note from the president:
Washington University in St. Louis has been shining on me since I arrived on campus as a graduate student in September 1958. And now, I am honored and delighted to serve as president of the William H. Danforth Leadership Society, succeeding inaugural President Beau Brauer.
Beau masterfully launched the society. He gave teeth to its mission. I have been impressed that in every event Beau has hosted or chaired, he has invoked the lessons of society namesake Bill Danforth.
Bill believed in institutions as a force for good in our world. After becoming the university’s 13th chancellor in 1971, Bill made it his mission for WashU to become recognized as one of America’s leading research institutions. He never wavered from this course. When he passed the reins to Mark S. Wrighton nearly a quarter of a century later, his vision was reality.
Now the reins are in Chancellor Andrew D. Martin’s hands. In his inspiring inaugural address on Oct. 3, 2019, Andrew set forth in ringing terms his own lofty vision. Like Bill and Mark, he counts on the support of those whose commitment and understanding runs deep, the members of the William H. Danforth Leadership Society.
Sincerely yours,
Bob
